Medal of Merit for the Avezzano Earthquake

The medal of merit for the earthquake in Avezzano ( Italian "Medaglia di benemerenza per il terremoto di Avezzano" ) is an award of the Kingdom of Italy , which on August 8, 1915 by decree by King Victor Emanuel III. for services in the earthquake of Avezzano in Abruzzo on January 13, 1915 in three classes. About 30,000 people died in the earthquake.

The bronze , silver or gold medal shows on its obverse the king's looking to the left head portrait surrounded by the inscription, which reproduces his signature: VITTORIO EMANUELLE III. The reverse , on the other hand, shows the three-line embossed inscription within a closed wreath of oak leaves TERREMOTO / 13 GENNAIO / 1915(German: earthquake January 13, 1915). The medal was worn on the upper left chest of the borrower on a red ribbon with a black border.
