Verdun ( Eng . Werdun bei Sommeregg ) is a district of the Slovenian town of Novo mesto in the east of the country at the foot of the Žumberak Mountains .

history

As part of the Carniola , Verdun belonged to the Habsburg rulership. With the end of the First World War, the city came under the rule of the House Karadjordjevic , when the Krain 1918 in the newly formed Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes belonging Slovenia opened. The house again lost power in the state that had been known as the Kingdom of Yugoslavia since 1929, when the communists under Josip Broz Tito came to power in 1945 at the end of the Second World War . In the course of the breakup of the SFR Yugoslavia by the Yugoslav wars, the place remained under Slovenian administration after the declaration of independence and the subsequent 10-day war .
