Verena Ballhaus
Verena Ballhaus , also Perena Parhausu and Verena Baruhausu (born March 10, 1951 in Gemünden am Main , Lower Franconia ) is a German children's book illustrator .
Life
Ballhaus is the daughter of the theater founder Oskar Ballhaus and his second wife, the actress Anneliese Wert . Already during their childhood in Munich they were enthusiastic about colors and shapes. She studied painting, graphics and art education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich .
After graduating, Ballhaus first worked as a set designer and designed posters before starting to illustrate picture, children's and school books in 1985, including children's books by her brother-in-law Paul Maar .
Awards
Ballhaus has received several awards, including a. with the German Youth Literature Prize for Dad now lives on Heinrichstrasse (1989, together with her half-sister Nele Maar ), the Austrian State Prize for Children's and Youth Literature in the "Illustration" category (2004) and twice from the Book Art Foundation . In 2002 she was nominated again for the German Youth Literature Prize with two book titles.
