Veronika Fischer (born July 28, 1964 in Straelen ; † May 6, 2012 in Mayen ) was a German politician ( CDU ) and mayor of the city of Mayen from 2008 until her death .

Life

Fischer obtained her Abitur in 1984 and studied law in Giessen and Bonn . From November 1993 to April 1994 she worked as a lawyer in a law firm in Lüneburg. She then worked from 1994 to 1997 in the district administration of Ahrweiler as the head of the social affairs department and chair of the district legal committee, from March 1, 1997 she was the leading state civil servant and department head for youth and social affairs, after her predecessor Alexander Saftig became mayor of the Mayen municipality. Land had been appointed, and from June 1999 she was also responsible for the area of ​​health. On March 1, 2001, she became the full-time mayor for social affairs in Mayen. She replaced Günther Laux ( SPD ) in the mayoral election in 2008 . Fischer was married and had two children. In the end she lived alone, separated from her family.

On the evening of May 6, 2012, after a regional search operation, she was found dead in her apartment. According to police, she committed suicide . She was buried on May 15, 2012 in her hometown Straelen.
