Veronika Kivisilla made her debut with poems in Looming relatively late and published her first volume of poetry in 2011. Her poems are often razor-sharp formulations of everyday observations, in which a proximity to compact prose can be established. Her poet colleague Kätlin Kaldmaa called Kivisilla a wolf in sheep's clothing in a review: "Despite the form of the free verse, she tells stories in her poems."

Veronika Kivisilla is also active as a literary critic and has published essays on Ellen Niit and Kalju Kruusa , for example . She also wrote textbooks. She also has a special interest in Estonian musical culture.
