Jaak Urmet (pseudonym Wimberg , born January 30, 1979 in Saku ) is an Estonian writer, critic and children's book author.

Life

Jaak Urmet graduated from high school in Tallinn in 1997 and studied Estonian language, literature and history at the Tallinn University of Education from 1997 to 2002 . From 2002 to 2004 he studied literature at the same university and graduated with a master's degree .

From 2001 to 2007 he worked as a literary editor for the daily newspaper Eesti Päevaleht , since then he has been working as a freelance author. Jaak Urmet is a member of the Estonian Writers' Union .

Literary work

Urmet made his magazine debut at the end of the 20th century and published his first volume of poetry in 2000. The poems contained therein were described by the critics as "male poetry". Fittingly, the author was compared with Hando Runnel in a review of his second volume of poetry .

His prose debut with the novel Lipamäe , made two years later, was also widely reviewed, although the critical voices predominated. Andres Ehin emphasized, for example, that the novel remains very limited to the generation of the author and does not come close to the more universal works of Andrus Kivirähk , Mehis Heinsaar or Jüri Ehlvest .

Characteristic for the work of Wimberg are an idiosyncratic spelling that deviates from the norm in places as well as sometimes extreme views or formulations that are directed against “political correctness”. In individual cases, this has led to heated debates.
