The Laimburg test center against the Mitterberg

The Laimburg experimental center is an agricultural research facility at the foot of the Mitterberg in the municipality of Pfatten in South Tyrol . The very practice-oriented facility is primarily financed by public funds. The test center is intended to serve the sustainability and competitiveness of the South Tyrolean agriculture, for which it also provides specific services such as the preparation of laboratory analyzes.

structure

The internal structure reflects the research focus of the institution. The following four institutes exist:

history

The test center was officially founded in 1975 with the South Tyrolean provincial law. The choice of location was based on the location of the first test areas acquired. In the 1970s and 1980s, the property was expanded considerably through the acquisition of agricultural land in all parts of South Tyrol, for example near Bruneck , Meran , Kaltern , Brixen , Auer and Eyrs . From 1984 a specialist library was set up. In the 1990s, the test center was entrusted with the creation of the gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle . In 2013, the Laimburg test center was expanded into a corporation run by the State of South Tyrol and in 2019/20 a spacious new building - based on a design by the architects Jens Oberst and Regina Kohlmayer - on the area of the Stadlhof was expanded.

Others

The test center is named after the Laimburg , a castle ruin on Kreiter Sattel to the west of the facility . Immediately next to the buildings of the research facility is the Bronze and Iron Age cemetery Stadlhof .

The products from the vineyards are vinified in the company's own winery and then marketed under the label Landesweingut Laimburg . In the direct vicinity of the test center there are two vocational schools with a German-speaking and an Italian-speaking technical school for fruit, viticulture and horticulture .
