history

Vevais was laid out from 1752. 14 colonist families, primarily Huguenots , were supposed to settle here. Eleven of the families came from Neuchâtel and two from France. In August 1820 a fire destroyed 16 farms in the village. Vevais was rebuilt and a new school was built in 1822. In the years 1865 to 1867 the arable land was redistributed.

The name Vevais probably comes from the place Vevey on Lake Geneva . The place had 132 inhabitants on January 1, 2005.
