history

At the beginning of the 19th century, the Swiss settled in Switzerland County. One of them was Jean Jacques Dufour, later John James Dufour, who founded Vevay in 1814 on the banks of the Ohio River . The winemaker named the new town after his hometown in Switzerland , the town of Vevey on Lake Geneva . The Swiss brought viticulture to the United States.
