course

The road connects the old Polish royal city of Krakow as the southern endpoint on two routes with the major cities of Lublin , Białystok , the Belarusian border town of Brest and the Lithuanian capital Vilnius .

Conception

The road is based on the former military road of the Polish Jagiellonian kings and the Grand Dukes from Lithuania to Mazovia , who appeared as brothers in arms in the Battle of Tannenberg in 1410 and inflicted a crushing defeat on the Teutonic Knight Order .

Today the focus is on the cultural sights and natural beauties, because the street wants to contribute to the development of the European Union . The Via Jagiellonica also connects the regions of northern Poland with the Via Regia , which has gained increasing tourist importance.
