Vicente Leñero Otero

Vicente Leñero Otero (born June 9, 1933 in Guadalajara , † December 3, 2014 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican writer, dramaturge , journalist , television and cinema screenwriter .

biography

Leñero studied at the Faculty of Engineering of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) until 1959 , when he turned to literary work and the theater and also began studying literature at the Escuela de Periodismo Carlos Septién García .

In 1963 his play Los albañiles (translation by U. Kunzmann: “They killed Don Jesus”) was awarded the Premio Biblioteca Breve . In addition to numerous other awards, he received the Premio Ariel in 1995, 2000 and 2001 , each for El callejón de los milagros , La ley de Herodes and El crimen del padre Amaro . In 2001 he received the “ Xavier Villaurrutia ” award and, one year later, the national award for sciences and arts in the literature and language category.

Leñero died City Mexico at the age of 81 years in the December 3, 2014 of lung cancer .
