Bernd Mey
Bernd Mey (* 1961 in Lindau on Lake Constance ) is a German architect . He has lived in Frankfurt am Main since 1989 .
Life
Education
After working as a bricklayer and concrete worker in Mönchengladbach and as a foreman near Aachen, Bernd Mey completed an architecture degree at RWTH Aachen from 1980 to 1988 with Gottfried Böhm , Fritz Eller and Wolfgang Döring . During his studies he realized two projects in Aachen.
After his main diploma examination, he traveled to around 20 countries in Asia, Africa and South America.
In 1989 he was accepted into the master class for architecture and conceptual design at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main. He studied with Peter Cook , Enric Miralles and Vittorio Magnago Lampugnani . From there he switched to teaching and worked as a tutor in the diploma class at the Polytechnic of North London , now the University of North London .

In 1992 he founded his architecture office under the name architektei mey in Frankfurt am Main.
Mey u. a. through the club " U60311 ", the restaurant in the Maintower and the art project for the Expo 2000 in Hanover. The U60311 in a disused pedestrian underpass in Frankfurt on Roßmarkt has received numerous awards and has been voted the best club in Germany five times. The restaurant in Frankfurt's Maintower is a popular tourist destination and the highest public restaurant in Europe with a bar and viewing platform at a height of 200 meters. The artists Susa Templin and Khan Oral, who were living in New York at the time, commissioned Bernd Mey in 1999 with the implementation of their design for the fish tank of the art project In-Between Architecture curated by Kasper König as part of the Expo 2000.
Together with Christian Pantzer, Bernd Mey was one of the youngest architects in Germany to receive recognition at the German Architecture Prize and an award for exemplary buildings, the highest award for architects in the state of Hesse.
Since 2001 Mey has mainly been involved in planning schools. Successful participation in national and international competitions is a key acquisition tool. So far, around 50 educational institutions in Germany and abroad have been planned.
Bernd Mey's work has been exhibited in six countries and published in ten countries. He lectured on his projects in nine countries. The buildings have been regularly selected for Architecture Day by an independent jury since 1999 .

In 1994 Bernd Mey founded a recording studio together with Dennis Pierre Sarratou. The op studio mainly produced electronic music , trance and hip-hop . It was created u. a. the title Tongue Forest - And You Got The F ... Nerve To Call Me Colored (Sony BMG). In 1998 the studio was closed again.
10 a.m. and half past ten
With Ralf Schmitt (artist and owner of the Förderkoje in Berlin) and Christian Pantzer (architect) he founded the interdisciplinary artist group 10 o'clock in 1996, to which Bernhard Schreiner (filmmaker) also belonged from 1999. The 10 o'clock group took part in several competitions and developed a. a. artistic concepts and performative architecture for the city of Frankfurt am Main and Taipei (Taiwan). Ralf Schmitt and Bernd Mey have been working under the name Halbzehn in the border area between art and architecture since 2002 .
