Victor Nef

Victor Nef (born February 9, 1895 in St. Gallen ; † November 24, 1980 in the same place ; entitled to live in Herisau ) was a Swiss textile entrepreneur , consul and diplomat .

Life

Victor Nef was the son of Johann Jakob Nef, a textile merchant and from 1925 to 1930 a member of the bank council of the Swiss National Bank and of Rose Kern. His grandfather was Johann Jakob Nef , his uncle Karl Nef . He married the Polish Marja de Mostowska.

Nef first completed a commercial apprenticeship at the St. Gallen Commercial College and graduated in 1914. Subsequently, Nef worked in St. Gallen until 1917 at the embroidery company Union AG , the leading company in the manufacture and export of embroidery. He then studied law and economics in Bern from 1917 to 1919 . He completed his doctorate on the textile industry in 1920 and joined the Federal Political Department . Nef worked from 1933 to 1945 as consul general in New York and in 1946 became Switzerland's first diplomatic representative in Canada . From 1957 he headed the embassy in Ottawa and until 1961 the embassy. During his career he was mainly concerned with economic relations. After his retirement he was still on the board of directors of Swiss companies in Canada and the USA .
