Victor J. Stenger

Victor John Stenger (born January 29, 1935 in Bayonne , New Jersey , † August 27, 2014 in Hawaii ) was an American electrical engineer, physicist , professor of astronomy and atheist activist . He gained notoriety for his criticism of so-called pseudosciences and above all of religiously motivated intelligent design .

Life

Stenger grew up in New Jersey. He opposes the idea that mystical-supernatural phenomena are necessary for free will or consciousness . Rather, scientific explanations could be found. His book " God: The Failed Hypothesis " was a bestseller in the United States.

Stenger was a member of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry (CSI, formerly CSICOP ), an organization of the skeptical movement .
