Victoria Vergara

Victoria Vergara (* 1948 in Santiago de Chile ) is a Chilean opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

Vergara studied at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia and at the Juilliard School in New York. She is the mother of the Chilean singer Andrea Tessa. She became internationally known for the title role in Bizet's Carmen , which she a. a. played under the direction of Plácido Domingo at the Metropolitan Opera . Other important roles were Amneris in Aida with Luciano Pavarotti in Vienna, Dulcinea in Massenet's Don Quichotte with Samuel Ramey at the New York City Opera , Beatriz in Leonardo Baladas Cristobál Colón and Maddalena in Verdi's Rigoletto with Pavarotti.

In 1983 she played Maddalena in the Rigoletto film adaptation by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle with the Vienna Philharmonic under Riccardo Chailly , the Swedish baritone Ingvar Wixell as Rigoletto, the soprano Edita Gruberová as Gilda, Luciano Pavarotti as the Duke of Mantua, Fedora Barbieri as Giovanna and Ferruccio Furlanetto as Sparafucile.
