The USS Thomas Hudner (DDG-116) is a for Arleigh Burke-class destroyer belonging destroyer of the US Navy , which was made in December 2018 service.
history
The Thomas Hudner was ordered on December 28, 2012 as the 66th ship of the Arleigh Burke class and laid down in the Bath Iron Works shipyard on November 16, 2015 . The ship was launched on April 23, 2017 with Georgea F. Hudner and Barbara Joan Miller as godmothers of the ship. The Thomas Hudner is the first ship to be named after the naval aviator Thomas J. Hudner junior. During the Battle of the Changjin Reservoir in December 1950, he tried to save the life of officer Jesse L. Brown and was awarded the Medal of Honor for this. Both men served on the aircraft carrier USS Leyte (CV-32) .
On May 3, 2018, the Thomas Hudner successfully completed its test drives. The delivery to the United States Navy took place on June 15. On December 1, 2018, the Thomas Hudner officially entered service in the port of Boston .
