The USS Gravely (DDG-107) is a destroyer in the United States Navy and belongs to the Arleigh Burke class . The namesake is Vice Admiral Samuel L. Gravely , who was the first African American to achieve the rank of admiral.

history

DDG-107 was commissioned in 2002, the keel-laying of the destroyer took place in November 2007. The construction yard is Ingalls Shipbuilding . The launch of the destroyer took place in March 2009. Gravely was baptized on May 16, 2009 , godmother was Mrs. Alma Bernice Clark Gravely, the widow of the admiral. On November 20, 2010, the Gravely entered service in Wilmington , North Carolina .
