history
DDG-111 was commissioned in 2002. In May 2009, Bath Iron Works laid the keel of the destroyer. Just about a year later, the christening took place in June 2010. The godmother was Ellen Spruance Holscher, the admiral's granddaughter. A day later the ship was launched. On September 1, 2011, the Spruance left the shipyard and began the journey to Key West , Florida, where it was put into service on October 1, 2011. The destroyer was then stationed in San Diego , California. The Spruance belongs to Destroyer Squadron 23 ( The Little Beavers ).
