The USS Paul Hamilton (DDG-60) is a destroyer in the United States Navy and belongs to the Arleigh Burke class . It was named after Paul Hamilton , the fourth United States Secretary of the Navy .
history
The Paul Hamilton was commissioned from Bath Iron Works in 1990 and laid down there in August 1992. After a year in dry dock, almost two years followed for the final equipment and shipyard test drives, at the end of May 1995 the destroyer was put into service with the Navy.
In 1997 the Hamilton moved from her home port of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii to the Pacific, visiting several ports in Australia in April of that year. In 2000, the destroyer took part in the multinational exercise RIMPAC as part of the combat group around the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) . In 2002, trips in support of Operation Enduring Freedom followed . Operation Iraqi Freedom started on the same voyage , and Paul Hamilton shot down most of the BGM-109 Tomahawk of all naval units. In April 2003 she returned to Pearl Harbor after a 9 month journey. The next relocation to the South China Sea followed in 2005 . In early 2007, the ship ran as part of the group around the USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) and took part in exercise Valiant Shield in August . In 2008, the Hamilton was again involved in the RIMPAC exercise.
On November 1, 2008, the destroyer took part in a National Missile Defense test. The Hamilton shot a short-range ballistic missile with a Standard Missile 3 . Her sister ship USS Hopper (DDG-70) missed her target on the connected test. In the summer of 2010, Paul Hamilton took part in RIMPAC again.
