The USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG-108) is a destroyer in the United States Navy and belongs to the Arleigh Burke class . It is named after Rear Admiral Wayne E. Meyer . Meyer is considered the father of the Aegis combat system . DDG-108 carries the 100th Aegis delivered.
history
DDG-108 was commissioned in 2002. In 2007 Bath Iron Works put the ship on the pile. On October 18, 2008, the ship was christened in the presence of Meyer. Godmother was Meyer's wife, Anna Mae. One day later, the USS Wayne E. Meyer was launched. A year later, on October 10, 2009, the Wayne E. Meyer was put into service in Philadelphia .
The Wayne E. Meyer's first mission began at the end of 2011 : alongside the USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) , this led the destroyer into the Indian Ocean and, from the beginning of 2012, into the Pacific region.
