The USS Truxtun (DDG-103) is a destroyer in the United States Navy and belongs to the Arleigh Burke class . It is named after Commodore Thomas Truxtun , an early US Navy hero and commander of the USS Constellation and USS President .
history
DDG-103 was commissioned in 2002. The keel was laid in April 2005 at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula , Mississippi . During construction on May 20, 2006, a severe fire broke out in the deckhouse. In addition to the Ingalls shipyard fire department, the Pascagoula fire department also had to move out. The deletion took several hours, devastated the ship and delayed construction by months. The ship could not be launched until April 17, 2007; the Truxtun was christened on June 2, 2007. The commissioning took place on April 25, 2009 in Charleston . The destroyer was stationed at Naval Station Norfolk .
The Truxtun began her first mission in May 2011 when she accompanied the USS George HW Bush (CVN-77) into Arab and European waters. In 2013, the ship was the sister ship USS Bainbridge during the filming of the film Captain Phillips .
During the Crimean crisis in 2014, the ship was moved to the Black Sea in March 2014.
In preparation for operations in the fight against IS , the Truxtun was deployed together with the aircraft carrier USS George HW Bush (CVN 77) and the destroyers USS Arleigh Burke (DDG 51) and USS O'Kane (DDG 77) in June 2014 the Persian Gulf .
