The keel of DDG-105 was laid on October 4, 2006, on January 26, 2008 the ship was launched and was christened. The Dewey's godmother was Deborah M. In August 2009, the Navy took the ship, the commissioning took place on March 6, 2010 in Seal Beach, California.
The Dewey's first mission began at the end of 2011 : alongside the USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) , it led the destroyer into the Indian Ocean and, from the beginning of 2012, into the Pacific region.
