Ferruccio Furlanetto

Ferruccio Furlanetto (born May 16, 1949 in Sacile ) is an Italian opera singer ( bass baritone ).

Life

Ferruccio Furlanetto first studied classical philology and natural sciences before he decided to study singing at the age of 22. After first appearances in Trieste , Lonigo and New Orleans , he made his debut at Scala in 1979 as Banco in Macbeth under the musical direction of Claudio Abbado . Since then he has developed a wide-ranging repertoire - from baroque to contemporary works - and has performed on important stages in Europe and America. His star roles include Figaro and Count Almaviva in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro , the Sparafucile imRigoletto and the Grand Inquisitor in Don Carlos . He also enjoyed great success as Zaccaria in Nabucco and as Boris Godunow, and most recently as Francesco Foscari in I due Foscari .

In the concert hall and in church rooms, Furlanetto is particularly valued for the bass parts in Verdi's Requiem and Mozart's Coronation Mass (KV 317). He has worked with famous conductors such as Daniel Barenboim , Valery Gergiev , Herbert von Karajan , James Levine and Riccardo Muti . Since 1985 he has appeared in over 240 performances at the Vienna State Opera , including 21 times as King Philip II in Verdi's Don Carlos . In 2001 he was awarded the title Kammersänger by this house . At the Salzburg Festival , Furlanetto sang in several Mozart operas since 1986, later King Philip II and in 2007 Prince Gremin in Eugene Onegin . In 2017 he will be seen again at the Salzburg Festival. He will give Boris Timofeevich Ismailov in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk .
