Vienna is a city in Fairfax County , in the US state of Virginia , 15 kilometers west of Washington, DC Following the Money magazine , an American financial magazine, the city was in 2005 on the American space 4 cities with the best quality of life.
history
Possibly the first resident in what is now the city was the settler Colonel Charles Broadwater, a well-known soldier in the British Colonial Forces and large landowner, who built his house here.
The city was originally called Ayr Hill and wasn't renamed Vienna until the late 1850s.
The city was connected to the railway network in 1858. This gave the city a decisive impetus for its further growth. During the Civil War from 1861 to 1865, the city came between the fronts several times. The first car drove through the city streets in 1904. At that time the maximum speed limit was 12 mph , the equivalent of about 19.3 km / h. In 1940 the population was still only 1237 inhabitants. After the Second World War, the city grew a little faster. In 1962 the Dulles International Airport was opened.

According to the 2000 census, 14,453 people, 5,331 households and 3,982 families lived in the city. The population density was 1,256.8 people per km². The distribution of the population across different races results from the following table: 81.10 percent of the population are white. 3.44 percent are African American , 0.19 percent are of Indian origin, 9.47 percent are Asian, and 2.71 are of other races. 3.09 percent belong to two or more races. 7.39 percent are Hispanic or Latino ethnic minorities .
64.2 percent of families are married couples. Single women live in 7.4 percent of households. The average household size was 2.71 people and the average size consists of 3.08 people.
23.6 percent of the population are under 18 years of age, 5.0 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 30.5 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 27.2 percent between 45 and 64 years of age. 13.6 percent were 65 years of age or older. There is a slight excess of women: for every 100 females there are 99.4 males.
The median income for a city household was $ 85,519 and the median income for a family was $ 93,043. Men had a median income of $ 62,733 compared to $ 39,563 for women. Education
Fairfax County's education system has been repeatedly listed as one of the best public school systems in the country. Vienna has a high school, a "secondary school" and six elementary schools. James Madison High School is Vienna's pride and joy, especially when it comes to school sports. The music program at James Madison High School is outstanding with an award-winning marching band, two symphonic groups, a jazz band, an orchestra and a choir. The “Thoreau Middle School” is the only “middle school” (secondary school) in Vienna, but not the only one in the region.
