Vienna is a city in Fairfax County , in the US state of Virginia , 15 kilometers west of Washington, DC Following the Money magazine , an American financial magazine, the city was in 2005 on the American space 4 cities with the best quality of life.

history

Possibly the first resident in what is now the city was the settler Colonel Charles Broadwater, a well-known soldier in the British Colonial Forces and large landowner, who built his house here.

The city was originally called Ayr Hill and wasn't renamed Vienna until the late 1850s.

The city was connected to the railway network in 1858. This gave the city a decisive impetus for its further growth. During the Civil War from 1861 to 1865, the city came between the fronts several times. The first car drove through the city streets in 1904. At that time the maximum speed limit was 12 mph , the equivalent of about 19.3 km / h. In 1940 the population was still only 1237 inhabitants. The music program at James Madison High School is outstanding with an award-winning marching band, two symphonic groups, a jazz band, an orchestra and a choir. The “Thoreau Middle School” is the only “middle school” (secondary school) in Vienna, but not the only one in the region.
