On December 4, 2012, Viking Ocean Cruises ordered two more ships and optioned two ships at the Fincantieri shipyard . The ships on order included the Viking Sea , which was due to enter service as Viking Sky in the second half of 2016 . Construction began on September 12, 2014 in Marghera , and the keel was laid on November 6, 2014 in Ancona . In May 2015, however, it was announced that the Viking Sky would be completed as the Viking Sea , the delivery of the Viking Sky , which was originally supposed to come into service as the Viking Sea , was postponed to 2017. On June 25, 2015 the Viking Sea floated up . On March 24, 2016, the Viking Sea was delivered to Viking Ocean Cruises. The christening took place on May 5, 2016 in London , godmother is Karine Hagen .
