The Viking Star is a cruise ship operated by Viking Ocean Cruises .

history

On December 21, 2011, a preliminary contract was signed between the shipping company Viking Ocean Cruises and the shipyard STX France for the construction of two cruise ships, including the Viking Star . The preliminary contract was terminated, however, because the shipyard had financing problems. Instead, Viking Ocean Cruises and Fincantieri signed a preliminary contract on April 18, 2012 for the construction of two ships. The final appointment was made on July 12, 2012.

Construction of the Viking Star began on June 6, 2013 in Marghera with the cutting of the first steel plate. On December 18, 2013 the ship was finally laid down and on June 23, 2014 the ship floated up. The takeover took place on March 28, 2015. The christening took place on May 17, 2015 in Bergen by Mayor Trude Drevland. The ship started sailing under the Norwegian flag instead of under the Maltese flag with its home port Valletta as initially planned .

Incident 2015

On July 30, 2015, mechanical problems arose due to a defect in the electrical transformer in the ship's propulsion system. The remainder of the 14-day cruise from Stockholm to Bergen was canceled, the ship was still in Tallinn . On August 11, 2015, the next trip could begin in Copenhagen .

Incident 2018

On January 12, 2018, the Fantastic ferry collided with the Viking Star in Barcelona .
