Viktoria Steinbiß born Clear Horst (* 19 August 1892 in Bielefeld ; † 11. February 1971 ibid) was a German politician of the CDU .

Life

After graduating from high school, Viktoria Steinbiß studied medicine at the universities of Frankfurt am Main , Göttingen , Heidelberg and Berlin . In 1920 she was promoted to Dr. med. doctorate and was from 1932 to 1936 head of the laboratory department of the city ​​hospital in Bielefeld . During the war years , she worked for doctors' representatives from 1940 to 1945. After the war, she opened her own practice in 1945. In addition to her partisan engagement, she was active in Christian associations.

Steinbiß became a member of the CDU in 1945. She was the first woman to be elected to the Bielefeld city council, where she took over the chairmanship of her party. She also represented her party in the Westphalia Provincial Council in 1946 and was deputy zone adviser for the British zone from 1947 to 1948 .

She was a member of the first and second Appointed Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia from October 2, 1946 to April 19, 1947 , later switched to federal politics and belonged to the German Bundestag from its first election from 1949 to 1961. She was always elected to parliament via the CDU state list of North Rhine-Westphalia. From 1953 to 1961 she was deputy chairman of the Bundestag committee for health care. She also served on the Social Policy Committee (1949–1957) and the Nuclear Energy and Water Management Committee (1958–1961). In the Bundestag, in addition to her parliamentary work, she pursued professional status for the German medical profession. She mediated discussions between high-ranking top officials of the medical organizations and the incumbent Chancellor Konrad Adenauer . She coordinated some of her speeches on topics of health policy with the then President of the German Medical Association, Karl Haedenkamp .
