Vila Nova de Cerveira is a former municipality and Vila (German: small town ) in northern Portugal .
Vila Nova de Cerveira belongs to the eponymous district of Vila Nova de Cerveira in the district of Viana do Castelo , has an area of 3.5 km² and has 1,457 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
On September 29, 2013, the municipalities of Vila Nova de Cerveira and Lovelhe were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Vila Nova de Cerveira e Lovelhe .
history
The city was granted city rights by King D Dinis in 1321 , which were renewed by King Manuel I in 1512 .
