Caála (until 1975 Vila Robert Williams ) is a district and a city in the Angolan province of Huambo with about 45,000 inhabitants, west of the provincial capital Huambo .

history

The place began its development with the arrival of the Benguela Railway in 1912. It belonged to the Huambo County until 1922, after which it came to the Lépi County , whose capital it became in 1934. In 1956 Caála became the seat of its own district and was henceforth called Vila Robert Williams, named after the engineer and explorer Sir Robert Williams .

The previous small town ( Vila ) was elevated to a town ( Cidade ) in 1970 .

After Angola's independence in 1975, the city dropped its Portuguese place name and got its current name back.

In 2002, after the end of the Angolan civil war and during the famine that followed, Caála was the location of a MSF nutrition center .

The stadium was modernized , together with the other facilities of the club, in 2008 by the Brazilian company Odebrecht , and can accommodate 8,000 spectators.
