Tea house (manufacturer's villa)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The factory owner's villa called Teehaus , which is now a listed building and which the manufacturer Otto E. Weber had built for himself on the site of his coffee substitute factory Otto E. Weber , is located at Meißner Strasse 47 in Radebeul, Saxony, right next to the production hall of today's Teehaus GmbH . The Wilhelminian style villa by the architect Carl Käfer was one of the most elaborate contemporary villas in the region and a prime example of the so-called Semper Nicolai School . Today the regular factory outlet is on the ground floor and the administration office on the upper floor.

Tea house : details around the loggia, in the middle the caryatid

The Radebeul construction company FW Eisold built the factory owner's villa for Otto E. Weber in 1889, a little back next to his factory on Meißner Strasse, in the middle of the Radebeul factory district . The two-storey building with a mezzanine floor has a gently sloping, flattened roof and a central projectile . The loggia located in it is closed off from the street by two round arches supported by two columns and a caryatid .

Since Weber organized a "tea party" in his villa once a week for friends and acquaintances, his hospitable house was given the name Tea House , which later gave the name to the current production company.

In 1910 the villa and factory were enclosed by the Radebeul master builder Johannes Eisold using a wrought-iron grille between brick pillars. After Weber's death in 1914, his retirement home became part of the company building.

In 1937 the villa was " Aryanized " together with the company . After the Second World War, the company and the villa were expropriated .

The layout of the rooms and many of the details inside are still in their original state. The factory sale takes place two days a week in the villa, which is still part of the company today.

In 2011 the facades were washed and repaired. The jumble painting facing the street was restored , while it was reconstructed on the other three sides .
