The Villa Rübsamen is a listed building on Liebigstrasse 7 in Dresden 's Südvorstadt district .

history

The Villa Rübsamen was built around 1875 in what was then a posh Swiss quarter . The construction of the late Dresden Semper Nicolai School , which was expanded in 1880, was owned by the court jeweler and Imperial Turkish Consul Fritz Chrambach around 1900 and later passed on to his son, Government Councilor Walter Chrambach.

The villa was named after Wilhelm and Ursula Rübsamen. Wilhelm Rübsamen opened a gynecological clinic and maternity hospital in the house in the 1930s and had the house that had burned out after the bombing of Dresden restored. From 1959 to 1987 the clinic was continued by his daughter Ursula Rübsamen. A small plaque on the building reminds of them. Today the house is used by a publisher, among others.

Building description

The Villa Rübsamen consists of a two-storey main building, which was built around 1875, and a single-storey extension from 1880. The facade is faced with sandstone and shows elements of the Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Baroque .

The main building is structured by a central risalit with three window axes. The windows on both floors are flanked by Ionic three-quarter columns and pilasters . The building ends with a gable-like segment arch above the eaves , in which there is an unfilled cartridge .

At the extension there is a wall fountain decorated with baroque elements in a niche between two free-standing columns with a faun playing a flute and standing on a shell. The water flows out of it into a basin below. The roof of the extension is accessible from the villa and is used as a basement .
