Villa rustica (Weil)

The villa rustica in the district of Weil , a municipality in the Upper Bavarian district of Landsberg am Lech , was examined in 1977, 1988 and 1997/98 in the run-up to construction work. The villa rustica of the Roman Empire in the northeast of Weil is a protected ground monument with the file number D-1-7831-0062.

The stately Roman estate in the area of ​​today's Römerstrasse, Merkurstrasse and Venusstrasse is part of the rural settlement on the high terraces east of the Lech . The complex is dated from the middle of the 1st to the middle of the 4th century AD.

The villa rustica with its 13 well-known buildings extends on a slope that slopes down to the valley floor. In the west and east there are remains of the courtyard walls.

The main house (building 1) is a villa with a risalit and apses on the representative front. Three phases of construction and repair could be verified for the bathing building.

Other buildings are a kiln as well as storage buildings and sheds . Carpentry tools and forging slag are evidence of manual work.
