history

The beginnings of the "Vilniaus prekyba" lie in the years after independence from the Soviet Union, when state companies were privatized from 1992 onwards. The students at that time Nerijus Numavičius , Julius Numavičius , Vladas Numavičius , Žilvinas Marcinkevičius , Mindaugas Marcinkevičius , Gintaras Marcinkevičius , Mindaugas Bagdonavičius , Ignas Staškevičius and Renatas Vaitkevičius took part in the sale of real estate, acquired real estate and acquired them in the first place in the privatization process and acquired real estate to be able to. The retail company “Vilniaus prekyba” was created from these properties in 1994, merging five owned stores.

In 1995 the nine young entrepreneurs acquired shares in three sugar factories. In 1998, the company said goodbye to food production (including the sale of the sugar factories to the Danish company " Danisco ") and concentrated on retailing foodstuffs. In 2002 the company expanded beyond national borders with the opening of the first supermarket in Latvia, later in Estonia and, since 2005, in Bulgaria. The business in Romania was given up again.

In April 2002, the first shopping center in Lithuania, called Akropolis , opened in Vilnius . Two more in Klaipėda and Kaunas followed, and a fourth in the northern Lithuanian city of Šiauliai is under construction (as of February 2009). When the western Lithuanian electricity network Vakarų skirstomieji tinklai was privatized in 2003 , VP was one of two Lithuanian companies that met the conditions (minimum annual turnover over 130 million euros) and acquired the electricity network with its subsidiary " NDX Energija ".

The company was registered on March 5th and was not formalized as a holding company until December 2004 after the reorganization of the managed businesses (companies).

The nine founding members owned the group. In 2006 the financier and bank manager Darius Nedzinskas joined this group. The group of entrepreneurs has since been called " VP dešimtukas ".
