Education

After studying at the Vilkaviškis seminary and ordination , he worked as a vicar, then as a pastor in Šakiai . During the occupation of Lithuania by the Soviet Union , he emigrated to Austria, his parents and brothers were deported to Siberia . His sister died after a serious illness in Lithuania, although Vincas tried to send the medicines for her. This was in vain because of the postal control, especially for shipments from abroad.

Teaching and Research

In 1948, after about a year of work, Bartuška defended his dissertation on the legal status of the military chaplain . At that time there was little work in this area or regulations stating that special regulations apply to military chaplains, but no extensive research. He was then invited to a seminary in the United States as a canon lawyer and professor of moral theology , and left Rome, which he later visited only once. Bartuška worked as bishop secretary at the Curia of the Diocese of San Diego and taught as a lecturer in Latin and English, which he had to learn within half a year.

Bartuška later became vice rector and prefect of studies of the seminary and taught as a professor at various Catholic institutes in New York .

Return to Lithuania

In 1980 Vincas Bartuška visited his homeland Lithuania for the first time.

After Lithuanian independence was regained, he finally returned to Lithuania, where he co-founded the Lithuanian Jurgis Matulaitis Priestly Seminary in Marijampolė. He taught here, financially supported the start-up and worked as vicar general of Bishop Juozas Žemaitis in the Vilkaviškis diocese , as a church lawyer in the church court and as a member of the priestly council of the Vilkaviškis diocese. In the Vilkaviškis Cathedral and in the St. Vincent de Paul Church in Marijampolė, the magnificent vitrages were donated by Vincas Bartuška.
