Vincent Malone (Bishop)

Vincent Malone (born September 11, 1931 in Liverpool ; † May 18, 2020 ibid) was a British Roman Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop in Liverpool .

Life

Vincent Malone was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Liverpool on September 18, 1955 in St. Oswald's Church in Old Swan , Liverpool, after his theological training at St. Joseph's College in Up Holland . He was chaplain at Notre Dame Convent and College at Mount Pleasant, Liverpool (1955-1959). There he studied at the University of Liverpool and graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science. At the University of Cambridge , he completed a postgraduate certificate course in education in 1960 and a Diploma in Education (Dip Ed) in 1964. In 1967 he became a Fellow of the College of Preceptors (FcollP).

From 1960 to 1961 he was a priest of the parish of St. Anne on Overbury Street in Liverpool and part-time teacher at the preparatory school of St. Francis Xavier (Cathedral Choir School). From 1961 to 1971 he worked at the Cardinal Allen Grammar School in Liverpool, first as an assistant teacher and finally as head of the department for religion.

In 1971 he became chaplain at the University of Liverpool and in 1979 administrator of the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral . In 1980 he was appointed papal honorary prelate ( monsignor ) and accepted into the cathedral chapter . In the same year - as the first clergyman ever - was elected chairman of the Senate of Liverpool University; In 1981 the University of Liverpool celebrated its centenary. He has also served as Chairman of the Archdiocese's Council of Priests, Regional Coordinator for the Pope's visit in 1982, Vice Spokesman for the Ecumenical Assembly of Churches in Merseyside and the region, and Chairman of the Standing Committee. In 1981 he was appointed a member of the Archbishop's Council and Trustee and Vicar General of the Archdiocese, in whose capacity he was active until 2019.

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Liverpool and titular bishop of Abora on May 13, 1989 . The Archbishop of Liverpool Derek John Worlock donated him episcopal ordination on July 3 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were the two auxiliary bishops in Liverpool Kevin O'Connor and John Rawsthorne . He was Chairman of the Episcopal Conference Committee on Higher Education and Episcopal Representative to the National Board of Catholic Women (NBCW).

On October 26, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.

Vincent Malone died of COVID-19 at the Royal Liverpool Hospital on May 18, 2020 .
