Viorel Ion (born November 2, 1967 in Mărăcineni ) is a former Romanian football player .
Career
societies
Ion played in Romania for Gloria Buzau , Oțelul Galați and Steaua Bucharest before moving to Germany in the Bundesliga . He was loaned from VfL Bochum by Oțelul Galați in the 1998/99 season. In the team of coach Klaus Toppmöller , Ion played twelve games and scored one goal. After the season he moved back to Romania and still played for Oțelul Galați, Rapid Bucharest , Gloria Buzău, Rulmentul Alexandria and Dunărea Galați .
National team
Ion made four appearances for the Romanian national team in his career . He made his debut on December 21, 1991 in a friendly against Egypt in Cairo . He came on in the 60th minute for Horaţiu Cioloboc - Romania lost the game 3-1. Against the same opponent three days later, on Christmas Eve, this time in Port Said , Ion was on the starting grid - the game ended 1: 1. The third appearance was a friendly against Greece in February 1992. Ion came on in the 69th minute and Greece won 1-0. Ion had his only appearance in a competitive game in qualifying for the 1998 World Cup . In December 1996 he came on as a substitute for the game in Macedonia in the 88th minute - Romania won the game 3-0.
