Virginia "Gini" Ernst (born January 14, 1991 in Vienna ) is an Austrian singer-songwriter and ice hockey player . She took part in five ice hockey world championships with the Austrian women's national team.

Career as a musician

After returning from Sweden, Ernst bought her first guitar and taught herself to play the guitar. She attended a singer-songwriter workshop in England and produced her first song with Martin Smith. Back in Vienna she worked with Echopilot , who produced their singles I Wish , Let It Shine and Rockin ' . In June 2014 she released the song Rockin ' , which took second place in the Austrian charts for 7 weeks. In November 2014 she released the single Soldier (Echopilot).

Ernst was the most played artist on Austrian radio in 2014. In 2015 she was nominated as Artist of the Year at the Austrian Music Award Amadeus. In June 2015 she released the song Kiss (Echopilot) and in April 2016 the song If Not Tonight , which she had produced with Steve Power in London. Through these productions she aroused the interest of the label Universal Music Publishing Berlin. Together with producer Ingo Steinbach, she composed the song No I Ain't , which was produced by Rainer Rütsch in the USA. No I Ain't was taken over by the major label Universal Music Publishing Berlin and released worldwide on September 2, 2016.

In 2019, she took part in the ORF dance show Dancing Stars , together with Alexandra Scheriau , in which the couple dropped out as 5th.

Ernst began ice skating at the age of three and joined the Vienna Ice Skating Club six years later , where she learned ice hockey. After initially playing exclusively in male youth teams, she switched to women's ice hockey at the age of 14 and was accepted into the U18 national junior team a year later.

In 2007 she took part in her first women's world championship , which was held in North Korea . At this tournament of the (third-class) Division II, Ernst and Team Austria took fourth place. In the following year, she won the gold medal with the national team at the World Championship of Division II in Finland and thus rose to Division I. After this success, she decided to move to Sweden, where she played under semi-professional conditions at VIK Västerås HK and rose to the Rik series with this in 2009 . During the 2009/10 season she moved within the league to Linköpings HC . In the 2010/11 season she was active for the women's team of Södertälje SK . After the 2011 World Championships , she took a break from ice hockey before doing some assignments for EHV Sabers Vienna during the 2012/13 season .

Virginia Ernst has been in a relationship with a woman since 2015. In August 2017, she made a partner with her friend.
