Virginia Lee

Virginia Lee (* 6. April 1965 in Sydney ) is a former Australian Lightweight - rower .

Virginia Lee's international career can be divided into three phases. At the World Championships in 1986 and 1987 , she finished fourth with the Australian lightweight foursome without a helmsman . After that she was not involved internationally for several years.

Her first comebeck took place at the 1992 World Championships in Montreal, the Australian lightweight foursome without a helmsman won the title. The following year, the foursome finished fourth at the 1993 World Championships . In 1994 Virginia Lee switched to scull rowing , at the 1994 World Championships she finished seventh in the lightweight double scull. The following year, Virginia Lee improved to fourth place at the 1995 World Championships . At the Olympic premiere of lightweight rowing in Atlanta in 1996 , Virginia Lee competed with Rebecca Joyce , the two won the bronze medal behind the boats from Romania and the United States.

After a two-year break, Virginia Lee joined Sally Newmarch at the World Championships in 1999 and won bronze behind the Romanians and the US rowers as in 1996. At the 2000 Olympic Games in front of their home crowd in Sydney, Lee and Newmarch finished fourth, almost six seconds behind the third-placed finishers.
