Visions of Atlantis is an Austrian metal band that can be classified between Power Metal and Symphonic Metal . The specialty of the band, which is strongly reminiscent of bands like Nightwish or the Austrian colleagues from Edenbridge , is that almost all of the songs are arranged as a duet between the female and male singing voice.
history
Visions of Atlantis was founded in 2000 by Werner Fiedler, Mike Koren, Christian Stani, Thomas Caser and Chris Kamper. A little later, singer Nicole Bogner joined them. In 2002 the band released their first studio album entitled Eternal Endless Infinity . A demo entitled Morning in Atlantis had already been recorded in 2000 . In 2003 the band changed their line-up, so Christian Stani (vocals) and Chris Kamper (keyboard) left Visions of Atlantis and were replaced by Mario Plank (vocals) and Miro Holly (keyboard). A year later, the second studio album Cast Away was released . It also contained the title Lost, which helped Visions of Atlantis to break through.
In October 2005, singer Nicole Bogner († 2012) left the band for personal reasons. The American soprano Melissa Ferlaak ( Aesma Daeva ) took over her post . A little later Werner Fiedler left the band and was replaced by Wolfgang Koch. At the beginning of 2006, Miro Holly, who was responsible for most of the music and also some lyrics, decided to leave the band and Martin Harb took his place.
Trinity , the band's third studio album, was released in late May 2007 via Napalm Records . According to the band, the sound on this album is heavier, darker and unites all of the band's typical trademarks in a bombastic mixture.
On November 28, 2007, Visions of Atlantis announced on their homepage that singer Melissa Ferlaak and guitarist Wolfgang Koch (the couple married in May 2008) had left the band. A replacement for Wolfgang Koch has already been found: Werner Fiedler, who left the band in 2004, is back again. The Austrian Joanna Nieniewska was introduced as the new singer on February 1, 2009, but shortly afterwards she had to leave the band for health reasons. The new singer is called Maxi Nil and was already active in the Greek band On Thorns I Lay . On February 25, 2011, the album Delta was released , which was promoted during an extensive European tour together with Rhapsody of Fire . A video clip was also released for the song New Dawn .
On July 18, 2011, bassist Mario Lochert left the band due to critical differences. Harb announced that they wanted to do without a permanent bass player in the future. On October 21, 2011 the EP Maria Magdalena , which contains 5 new songs (including a cover version of the 80s hit I'll never be Maria Magdalena by Sandra), was released across Europe. The worldwide release followed on October 25, 2011. On January 6, 2012, the former singer Nicole Bogner died at the age of 27 after a long and serious illness. On March 22nd, 2013 the fifth studio album, which will be called "Ethera", was released.
On December 6, 2013, Visions of Atlantis announced on their Facebook page that the majority of the band would go their separate ways. Only drummer and founding member Thomas Caser remain part of the band. This decision was largely made by Caser, as in his opinion the band was moving more and more musically from their origins. The founding members Chris Kamper, Werner Fiedler and Mike Koren then rejoined the band, and Siegfried Samer was chosen as the new singer. Clémentine Delauney , who was already a singer with the Tyrolean band Serenity , has since lent her voice to Visions of Atlantis.
On April 29, 2016 the EP "Old Routes - New Waters" was released, on which the band's greatest hits were re-recorded with the new singers. Including the ballad "Winternight", for which a music video was shot in Sweden under the direction of Patric Ullaeus . In 2017 - at that time still as live musicians - Christian "Dushi" Douscha on guitar and Herbert Glos ( Dragony ) joined Visions of Atlantis and are now official members of the band.
On February 16, 2018, the band released their sixth studio album via Napalm Records . Stylistically, she returned to her roots. A music video for the title track "The Deep & The Dark" was shot in Sweden and Gran Canaria . There is also a music video for "Return To Lemuria" and "The Last Home".
During the tour with Kamelot and Leaves' Eyes in September 2018, the lead singer Siegfried Samer was represented at some concerts by Michele Guaitoli from the Italian band Temperance due to professional scheduling conflicts . A few days later, Samer announced on the band's Facebook page that it was becoming more and more difficult for him to combine his main job and the increasing number of appearances due to increasing awareness and that he would therefore leave the band after the tour. Visions of Atlantis then engaged Guaitoli as a permanent member of the band. The band performed with both singers on the "Symphonic Metal Nights" tour in autumn 2018. A live album was subsequently released from this tour.
