The Vita Bernwardi episcopi Hildesheimensis is the biography of Bishop Bernward of Hildesheim († November 20, 1022 )

The scholaster at the Hildesheim Cathedral School Thangmar (* 940/950, † 25 May before 1007) calls himself the author . The authorship of at least parts of the text is secured, other parts may have been added later.

The Vita Bernwardi is one of the essential sources for the history of the last years of the Liudolfinger . As such, but also in terms of textual history, it is continued in Wolfheres ' biography of Bernwards' successor Godehard .
