The wild grape Vitis lincecumii is native to the southeastern United States . The wild grape was often the intersection of hybrid grape used.

Vitis lincecumii is very similar to the species Vitis aestivalis . The researcher UT Waterfall therefore suggests in his work Keys to the Flora of Oklahoma that a distinction between the two species should be abolished. Essentially, the berries, as well as the seeds of Vitis lincecumii , are usually slightly larger.

Within the subgenus Euvitis , the wild grape variety belongs to the group Aestivalae.

The wild grape is widespread mainly in the states of Louisiana , Oklahoma and Texas .

In viticulture, Vitis lincecumii played an important role in the fight against phylloxera at the end of the 19th century , as the hybrid vine ' Jaeger 70 ' bred by Hermann Jaeger found its way into many important hybrid vines.

Synonyms: Big Summer Grape, Pine Wood Grape, Post Oak Grape, Sand Grape, South Western Aestivalis, Turkey Grape, and Vine Wood Grape.
