Vito De Grisantis

Vito De Grisantis (born August 20, 1941 in Lecce , † April 1, 2010 in Tricase ) was Roman Catholic bishop of Ugento-Santa Maria di Leuca.

Life

Vito De Grisantis studied Catholic theology at the diocesan seminary of Molfetta . With a thesis on marriage and family at the Institute John Paul II of the Lateran University he was awarded a Dr. theol. PhD and was a lecturer at the University of Religious Studies in Lecce. He was ordained a priest on June 27, 1965 . From 1975 to 2000 he was pastor of the parish of St. Rose in Lecce and taught at the Liceo Scientifico "C. De Giorgi". He became known for his commitment to microcredit for the poorest sections of the population.

De Grisantis was appointed Bishop of Ugento - Santa Maria di Leuca by Pope John Paul II on May 13, 2000 . He was ordained bishop on July 29th of the same year by the Archbishop of Palermo , Cardinal Salvatore De Giorgi ; Co- consecrators were Cosmo Francesco Ruppi , Archbishop of Lecce , and Domenico Caliandro , Bishop of Nardò-Gallipoli .

Vito De Grisantis died of malignant lymphoma after a long illness .
