Vittorio Amedeo Cigna-Santi (occasionally also Vittorio Amadeo Cigna-Santi ; * around 1730 in Poirino , † after 1795), was an Italian librettist .

Little is known about Cigna-Santi's life. After the publication of a few poems he began to write libretti for the Teatro Regio in Turin around 1754/55 . He held this position for over 30 years. His first libretti were of little success, including Mitridate, re di Ponto , which was set to music by Quirino Gasparini in 1767 and by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1770 . In 1765 he wrote his most important libretto, Motezuma (sometimes also called Montezuma ), which was set to music by many composers. In 1785, the revised text was set to music by Joseph Haydn .

Cigna-Santi wrote almost exclusively Drammi per musica . In his libretti, though less skillfully, he imitated the style of Apostolo Zeno and Pietro Metastasio .
