Vittorio Goretti (born June 17, 1939 in San Cesario sul Panaro , † July 7, 2016 in Pianoro ) was an Italian amateur astronomer and asteroid discoverer.

Life

He taught physics and mathematics at a high school in Bologna for nearly 30 years .

He put his focus in astronomy on the observation and discovery of asteroids at his private observatory in Pianoro ( IAU code 610) in the province of Bologna .

In the period from 1996 to 1999, he and colleagues identified a total of 31 asteroids .

The asteroid (7801) Goretti was named after him.
