Viverso (formerly Viverso GmbH , now Nuplex Industries GmbH ) was a 100% subsidiary of Bayer MaterialScience AG and is a producer and marketer of coating resins ( alkyd resins , unsaturated polyester resins and hydroxy-functional acrylates ). The company is based in Bitterfeld-Wolfen in Saxony-Anhalt . Until October 2011, the parent company was Nuplex Industries Ltd. based in New Zealand this was however relocated to Frankfurt am Main in the course of the merger with Allnex . The direct mother of Nuplex Industries GmbH is Nuplex Resins BV in the Netherlands.
history
Viverso was planned to be spun off from Bayer MaterialScience AG's CAS ( Coatings, Adhesives, Specialties ) business unit in 2007 . The new outsourced company should be tailored to the market environment and the customer base for the above-mentioned product groups. These are mature products that require little technical service, offer consistently high quality and have to be with the customer as punctually as possible. That is why an internet platform was set up on which customers can place their orders quickly and easily.
The location in Bitterfeld-Wolfen was selected for the company's headquarters, where the lacquer resin plant had already existed since 1994 as a production facility for the Alkydal®, Roskydal® and Desmophen® A. product groups. The production facility is one of the most modern of its kind in Europe. On January 1, 2008, Viverso officially took over the marketing of Alkydal, Roskydal and Desmophen A from Bayer MaterialScience AG.
Bayer MaterialScience introduced the first alkydal grades in the 1920s and 1930s, and Roskydal has been in production since the 1950s. Both brands had a lasting impact on the market for coating resins and set quality standards. They are widely used in the wood, industrial and automotive paint industries. In addition to the production of these classic resins in a very modern plant, Viverso is particularly characterized by sales via its own online platform. Viverso is one of the first manufacturers of such chemical raw materials in Europe and worldwide to choose this distribution channel.
In October 2011 Bayer MaterialScience AG announced the sale of Viverso to Nuplex Industries. The purchase price is 75 million euros; all 165 employees will be taken over by Nuplex.
In September 2016, the chemical company Allnex announced that it would merge with Nuplex. The headquarters of the joint holding company were relocated to Frankfurt am Main .
Business model
The Viverso business model is primarily characterized by the exclusive sale of the products via its own internet platform . All Viverso customers have access and can conduct their business activities online , just like other Internet shops . On the website they can place their orders, order samples, check available quantities and track their orders. Viverso is thus the first subsidiary of Bayer MaterialScience AG to have its own web shop and to sell its products exclusively online. As a result, Viverso takes on a pioneering role and is one of the first companies in the chemical industry to sell their raw material products not via the classic B2B route, but only online. Viverso bundles production and management / marketing / sales in one location. In this way, the company can work more efficiently and make more targeted decisions. Viverso has around 150 employees . Externally, Viverso positions itself as part of Bayer MaterialScience AG with relaxed marketing and uncomplicated, transparent transactions.
Production facility
Viverso emerged from the paint resin company of Bayer Bitterfeld GmbH . This plant started production in 1994 . In addition to the 3 Viverso product groups, the Bayhydrol®, Desmophen® C, Desmophen® AFS and Desmolux® lines for the Bayer MaterialScience AG range are also produced here. The site has a technical center with test facilities, a laboratory and raw material and finished product warehouse . Up to 66,000 tons of coating resins can be produced here per year.
Product range
Viverso produces resins that are used in the production of a wide variety of surface coatings and fillers. These include short to long-chain alkyd resins , polyester resins and various hydroxy-functional acrylate types, including high-solid variants.
Alkyd resins
Viverso produces alkyd resins, which are used for the production of wood and furniture lacquers, parquet and floor lacquers, lacquers for wooden exterior surfaces, glazes, lacquers for the painting and DIY sector as well as industrial lacquers. Bayer manufactured the first alkyd resins industrially as early as 1929 . Depending on the type, these paint raw materials are dissolved in xylene , various benzines, butyl acetate or methoxypropyl acetate and have become known worldwide under the name of Alkydal. Viverso still sells its alkyd resins under this brand name today.
Unsaturated polyester resins
Unsaturated polyester resins (UP resins) from Viverso are used in wood and furniture lacquers - both conventionally curing and UV-curing - in film coatings, lacquers for musical instruments and interior construction, and as filler resins in fillers for wood, large vehicles, cars, stones and marble for use. The first unsaturated polyester resin types in styrene were introduced by Bayer in the 1950s under the brand name Roskydal . Viverso continues this product line under this name.
Hydroxy functional acrylates
Hydroxy-functional acrylates have been produced by Bayer since the 1980s and form the basis for 2-component systems. In conjunction with various Desmodur N types, Viverso Acrylates are used, for example. B. in corrosion protection , wood and furniture paints, industrial and plastic paints as well as primers and fillers, top coat and clear coat in the automotive industry. The acrylate line is called Desmophen A at Bayer and Viverso. Viverso also offers high solid versions of Desmophen A. They contain fewer solvents and therefore a lower proportion of volatile organic compounds (VOC) and are therefore more environmentally friendly.
