From 1995 to 1998 he played for NK Hrvatski Dragovoljac in Croatia , where he was the first goalkeeper in the first two seasons and completed 63 games. In the summer of 1998 Vasilj moved to Dinamo Zagreb on a free transfer , where he came to five missions until 2001 and then decided to transfer to NK Zagreb within Zagreb . In 2002 he was with Zagreb champion of the Croatian league , which should be their first and only championship title to this day. In Zagreb he came to no less than 57 missions by 2003, but that did not prevent him from moving to Varaždin in 2003 to the local NK Varteks Varaždin . At the club founded in 1932 he was able to play in 30 matches and two UEFA Cup matches . The two games were lost in the first round of the UEFA Cup against Hungarian club Debreceni VSC . Just a year later, Vasilj returned in 2004 to his former club Dinamo Zagreb for which he was able to play 20 games. He also made a total of six appearances in the UEFA Cup. After only one year again, he received an offer from Konyaspor in Turkey , which he accepted shortly afterwards. He only came on two missions for the Turks. Since 2006 Vasilj was back with his youth club, the NK Široki Brijeg, under contract. There he won the Bosnian championship in 2006 . He ended his career in 2009.

National team

In the spring of 1998 Vasilj was added to the squad of the Croatian national team and acted there as the third goalkeeper. He was also in the 22-man squad of Croatia at the 1998 World Cup in France , but remained without use. Croatia finished this world championship in 3rd place. Vasilj made his international debut on May 29, 1998 in Pula in the friendly against Slovakia when he was substituted on in the second half. In 2002 Vasilj returned as the third goalkeeper back to the national team, where he was also in the Croatian 23-man squad at the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan . As in 1998, he was not used in this World Cup. Shortly before the World Cup, he played again for the Croatian national team in the friendly against Hungary . In 2004, Vasilj was again the third goalkeeper in the Croatian squad at the 2004 European Championships after regular goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa was injured.
