Volker Beyrich (born April 26, 1940 in Dresden ) is a German educator ; since 2011 he has been heading the archives of the Fürstenschüler Foundation in Grimma .

present

Volker Beyrich has been involved in the archives of the Fürstenschüler Foundation since 2003 (full name: "Archive for the history of the Saxon princely and regional schools St. Afra zu Meißen and St. Augustin zu Grimma " ; since the end of 2010 with the name addition "Kurt -Schwabe-Archiv “ in memory of the first archive manager in Grimma, Kurt Schwabe ).

The archive preserves documents and materials of various kinds on the history of the three former state and princely schools St. Afra in Meißen , Schulpforta near Naumburg and St. Augustin in Grimma as well as the Grimma monastery church . The Fürstenschüler Foundation is responsible for this . It is the successor to the archive of the Association of Former Princely Students , which existed until 2002. From 1992 to 2015, the archive was located in the former principal's apartment in the St. Augustin grammar school in Grimma; since spring 2016 it has been in the attic of the neighboring Alte Seminar building (the former Döringsche Freihaus).

Career

Volker Beyrich grew up in a family of teachers. After the family moved to Nerchau , he attended elementary school there and switched to high school in Grimma , where he passed the Abitur. After serving in the army, Beyrich studied history and German in Leipzig. After the state examination, he received an assistant position at what was then the Karl Marx University in Leipzig . In 1968 Grimma became Beyrich's place of work and residence. At the local extended high school "Ernst Schneller" (from 1990: Gymnasium St. Augustin zu Grimma) he led eight classes to the Abitur as a class teacher. In addition, he was involved as a specialist advisor, deputy headmaster and member of the school management for the interests of the student body, the teaching staff and the school. In 1976, on Beyrich's initiative, there was the first school bike tour from Grimma to Prague and back. Since then, the annual sporting-tourist event has been part of the younger school traditions: around 20 bicycle enthusiasts take part in the tour to the Czech capital.

Beyrich has been studying the history of the traditional educational institution (where his father was a student) since 1990. He gave and holds lectures to students and colleagues and worked on the book documentation for the 450th school anniversary in 2000. In 2003, after more than 33 years of teaching at the St. Augustin High School and the previous school, Volker Beyrich ended his professional life as a teacher - shortly afterwards he began his voluntary work at the archives of the Fürstenschüler Foundation at the side of archive manager Kurt Schwabe . After Kurt Schwabe's death in 2011, Volker Beyrich was entrusted with the management of the archive. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Augustiner Foundation zu Grimma .
