Volker Kempe
Volker Kempe (born July 1, 1939 in Berlin ) is a German-Austrian former scientist, manager and entrepreneur.
Life and education
The son of a commercial employee who ended up with his mother in the chaos of war in Brunn, a district of Auerbach in Vogtland , attended secondary school in Karl-Marx-Stadt from 1953 . After the 11th grade he was delegated to the Workers and Farmers Faculty (ABF) in Halle (Saale) , where he graduated from high school and prepared for studying abroad.
From 1957 to 1963 Kempe studied physics and communications engineering at the Moscow Energy Institute (Московский Энергетический Институт), and received his diploma with distinction. In 1968 he submitted his dissertation for Dr.-Ing. at the Technical University of Dresden , from which she was awarded Summa Cum Laude . The doctorate B for Dr.sc.nat. on the theory of stochastic systems (two books) followed in 1976.
In 1978 Kempe became professor for communications and control engineering at the Academy of Sciences of the GDR , of which he was appointed a nominated member in 1986. Two years later he also became a nominated member of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA).
Career
Kempe was a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany and in April 1986 a delegate of the XI. Party congress of the SED.
From 1977 to 1990 he succeeded Horst Völz as director of the Central Institute for Cybernetics and Information Processes of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR with more than 600 employees. From 1990 to 2003 he was engineering manager of the multinational semiconductor manufacturer ams AG , headquartered in Premstätten in Styria, Austria. In 2003 he founded the MEMS company SensorDynamics AG together with Hubertus Christ, Herbert Gartner and Jürgen Tittel , which was successfully sold to the American company Maxim Integrated in 2011 for 164 million US dollars .
He is the author of over 100 scientific publications and more than 20 patents, four scientific books and five scientific anthologies, editor of four scientific journals, member of various program committees at international conferences, such as B. ESSCIRC and DTIP.

- 1976: National Prize of the GDR, 1st class for science and technology

Private
Kempe is married to a native Moscow woman whom he met while studying. They have two daughters.
