Volker Kottenhahn
Volker Kottenhahn is a German jazz pianist.
Kottenhahn studied jazz at the Berlin University of the Arts with David Friedman , Jerry Granelli , Aki Takase and Walter Norris until 1994 . In 1990 he was one of the founders of the Out of Print group with bassist Dirk Strakhof and drummer Johannes Bockholt , which initially accompanied the singer Celine Rudolph . In 1992, the group received first prize at the nationwide young jazz competition in Leipzig, released their first album in 1994, toured Romania and South Africa, among others, and had radio productions at WDR, NDR, MDR and ORB.
In 1994 Kottenhahn received the Berlin Senate Studio Prize for the formation Welcome to the Maze , with which he released the album of the same name the following year. In 1997 he studied with Richie Beirach , Kenny Werner and Ron McClure in New York on a scholarship from the Berlin Senate . In the same year he founded his own band with Britta-Ann Flechsenhar , Jerry Granelli and Carlos Bica . Kottenhahn teaches jazz piano at the Berlin University of the Arts.
