Dirk Strakhof

Dirk Strakhof (* 1960 ) is a German jazz bassist and composer .

Strakhof first played classical guitar before switching to bass. Between 1981 and 1984 he studied jazz at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin with Sigi Busch , David Friedman and Jerry Granelli . As a scholarship holder, he took classes in New York with Dave Holland , Richie Beirach , Rufus Reid and Ron McClure .

Since 1990 Strakhof has been a member of the group Out of Print , which is still active today, with pianist Volker Kottenhahn and drummer Johannes Bockholt , which also recorded two albums with singer Celine Rudolph . He toured with the group through Romania (1994 and 1996), South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya and Madagascar (1995) and worked on radio and television productions for WDR, NDR, MDR, ORB and Romanian state television and six CD productions .

Strakhof also works in the Duo Kite with the vibraphonist Franz Bauer . The duo is the starting point of the German-Bulgarian band Batoru , which also includes singer Michael Schiefel , accordionist Peter Ralchev and Tupan player Stoyan Yankoulov . The group realized a concert and radio production in 1996 with Strakhof's own compositions with guests Nils Petter Molvær and Denney Goodhew . He appeared at Expo 2000 with Sigune von Osten and Michael Riessler . In 2008 Strakhof went on a tour of Central America with the Duo Kite .

He composed film scores for the documentaries A Tokyo Fusebox and The Beginning Was Good by Susanna Salonen .
